Genuine vs OEM vs Aftermarket Jaguar & Land Rover Parts: A Price Guide

Genuine vs OEM vs Aftermarket Jaguar & Land Rover Parts: A Price Guide

If you've priced up parts for a Jaguar or Land Rover recently, you'll know the genuine parts bill can be eye-watering. With JLR genuine prices up 21.5% since 2022, more owners and workshops are asking the same question: do I really need the genuine part?

We sell all three types — Genuine, OEM, and Aftermarket — so we're not pushing one over another. Here's an honest breakdown of what each means, what they cost, and when each makes sense.

How Myton Labels Parts: The Suffix System

Every part on myton.parts uses a simple naming convention based on the original JLR part number:

Suffix Type What it means
No suffix Genuine Manufactured for JLR, sold in JLR packaging with the JLR price tag
-O OEM Made by the same factory that supplies JLR, sold under the manufacturer's own brand (Delphi, Brembo, Mahle, etc.)
-A Aftermarket Made by a third-party manufacturer to match the original specification

So when you see C2Z32076 (Genuine), C2Z32076-O (OEM), and C2Z32076-A (Aftermarket), they're all the same part for the same application — just different sources and price points.

Real Price Comparisons: The Numbers Don't Lie

Here's what the three options actually cost right now (prices ex-VAT, June 2026).

Discovery 5 Timing Chain Components

The Ingenium 2.0 diesel timing chain is one of the most expensive maintenance items on modern Land Rovers. Here's what the individual components cost:

Part Number Description Type Price (ex VAT) Saving
LR032048 Primary timing chain Genuine £65.38
LR032048-A Primary timing chain Aftermarket £33.28 49%
LR095472 Chain tensioner Genuine £106.71
LR095472-A Chain tensioner Aftermarket £60.91 43%
LR051013 Chain tensioner (secondary) Genuine £47.69
LR051013-A Chain tensioner (secondary) Aftermarket £31.96 33%
LR091740-O Lower primary chain OEM £68.12
LR123811-O Primary tensioner OEM £64.81

Or skip the individual parts and buy a complete kit:

Part Number Description Price (ex VAT)
GA3411-A Complete timing chain kit (AJ200D diesel) £205.70
GA3412-A Complete timing chain kit (Ingenium 4-cyl) £241.51

A complete genuine timing chain rebuild — chains, tensioners, guides — would cost £400+ in genuine parts alone. The aftermarket kit at £205 includes everything in one box.

The Part-Within-A-Part: How We Save You Even More

JLR sometimes only sell a part as a complete assembly — forcing you to buy the whole unit when only one component has failed. At Myton, we source the individual components wherever possible.

A real example: the fuel injection pump on the Ingenium diesel.

Part Part Number Price (ex VAT)
Complete fuel injection pump assembly LR078840 £1,608.01
Fuel pressure regulator only LR078840VA-A £55.57

If your fuel pressure regulator has failed — which is the most common failure point on this pump — JLR's answer is to replace the entire £1,608 assembly. We can supply just the regulator for £55.57. That's a saving of £1,552.44 — or 96.5%.

This approach applies across dozens of components. Whenever we can source the serviceable sub-component rather than the complete assembly, we do.

When to Choose Genuine, OEM or Aftermarket

Choose Genuine when:

  • The vehicle is under manufacturer warranty and the repair needs to be documented
  • You're working on a very low-mileage or collector vehicle where provenance matters
  • The part is safety-critical and no OEM alternative exists (rare, but possible for some electronic modules)

Choose OEM when:

  • You want identical quality to genuine at a lower price — same factory, same spec, different box
  • The vehicle is out of warranty but you want brand-name confidence (Delphi, Brembo, Bosch, Mahle, ZF)
  • You're a workshop billing a customer who wants quality assurance without the JLR markup

Choose Aftermarket when:

  • The vehicle is high-mileage and you want the best value for money
  • You're doing a full service or overhaul where the parts bill adds up fast
  • The part is a consumable (filters, pads, discs, wipers) that will be replaced again in 12–24 months

JLR Don't Make Most of These Parts

Here's something most Jaguar and Land Rover owners don't realise: JLR don't manufacture brake pads, filters, wipers, bearings, sensors, or most of the parts you replace at service time. JLR make engines, body panels, interiors, and assemble the vehicle. The consumable and wear parts come from specialist manufacturers — the same companies you see in the aftermarket.

We cross-referenced several JLR part numbers through the TecDoc industry database to see how many aftermarket manufacturers make the same part:

JLR Part Number Description Aftermarket Manufacturers
C2Z32076 Jaguar XF front brake pads 42 parts from 32 brands — including Bosch, Brembo, Delphi, Ferodo, TRW, Comline
LR134693 Evoque front brake pads 46 parts from 32 brands — including Brembo, Delphi, Ferodo, Allied Nippon, Apec
T2H53847 Jaguar XE/F-Pace front brake pads 42 parts from 31 brands — including Bosch, Brembo, TRW, Delphi, Ferodo

When 32 manufacturers make the same brake pad to the same specification, the idea that only the JLR-branded version is "genuine quality" doesn't hold up. The pad is the pad — Ferodo makes it for JLR, and Ferodo sells it themselves for less.

This is true across almost every service and wear component: filters (Mahle, Mann), belts (Dayco, Gates), bearings (SKF, FAG), sensors (Bosch, Delphi), and wipers (Bosch, Valeo). These companies supply JLR on the production line — and they sell the exact same parts to the aftermarket.

The Quality Question: Are Aftermarket Parts Any Good?

This is the concern most people have — and it's a fair question. Here's the reality:

OEM parts are genuinely identical. When ATE makes a brake caliper for the Jaguar XF, they make it on the same production line, to the same drawings, with the same materials as the one that goes in a JLR box. The only difference is the box — which you throw away anyway.

In fact, we've had genuine Jaguar Land Rover parts delivered to us in the official JLR packaging, only to open it and find the original manufacturer's branded box still inside — they'd forgotten to remove it before reboxing. Same part, same factory, same box. The only thing JLR added was their label and a significant markup.

Quality aftermarket has improved dramatically. Manufacturers like Brembo, Lemforder, SKF, Febi, and Mahle supply to OEM standards across the European market. These aren't cheap pattern parts — they're engineered to meet or exceed the original specification.

We don't stock cheap pattern parts — and we get offered them all the time. The aftermarket is full of low-quality parts at rock-bottom prices, and we turn them down. Every supplier on myton.parts is vetted before we list a single part.

We actively monitor quality through warranty return rates. Every part in our catalogue carries a quality score based on the percentage of units sold vs units returned. If any part drops below 99% satisfaction — meaning more than 1 in 100 come back — it triggers an investigation. In several cases we've withdrawn parts entirely because they didn't meet our standards, even when they were profitable to sell.

Our 12-month warranty covers every part we sell, regardless of whether it's genuine, OEM, or aftermarket. That warranty isn't just a promise — it's backed by the data we track on every product.

The Bottom Line

With genuine JLR parts prices up 21.5% since 2022 and the most commonly replaced components up 25–35%, the economics have shifted decisively. A set of genuine XF front brake pads at £274 vs an aftermarket set at £38 isn't a marginal difference — it's a 7:1 price ratio for a part that does exactly the same job.

Every part we sell — genuine, OEM, and aftermarket — ships with a 12-month warranty and next-day UK delivery via DHL.
